The popular David Beckham has been injured since joining the Galaxy of Los Angeles and has played little or nothing in the MLS, although the team hopes he can play next week. However, its presence in the United States had a positive economic impact, said club president Alexi Lalas. "I think we saw something monumental has happened in our team in the league and the sport of soccer. Our brand has become more relevant to local and international level,''Lalas said in a presentation at the Honda Symposium football, which discussed the impact of Beckham in the MLS.
"But it's true that we need consistency in the field of play and his performance in the team to maintain the level of success,''added the official.
"We recognize that we needed an injection of the international star power and in 2007 we have seen the results. I think that within a few years we will see that this year was an important moment in the evolution of our league.''
good news is that Beckham will return next week to play golf with his team after a lengthy absence through injury of ligament in his right knee in late August.
"We hope to play in the next two home games. But if for a moment we feel is not ready, will not play with us or with England."
